Gavilan’s Bejarano, Cline sign with Simpson University women’s basketball

A pair of Gavilan College women's basketball standouts are headed to the next level. Rams teammates Emiliana Bejarano and Izzy Cline are both headed to Northern California after signing letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at Simpson University in Redding.

The duo made it official at a signing ceremony on campus, joined by their coaches, teammates, and athletics staff.

Gavilan head coach Carlton Fortenberry as well as assistant coach Moe Llanes are excited for Bejarano and Cline's future.

"The sky is the limit for these two and we are so proud of them," Fortenberry said.

"We are so thankful to be a part of these young women's journey and excited to see what their next chapter brings," said Llanes.

Bejarano, originally out of Ann Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill, leaves Gavilan after an impressive freshman season for the Rams, averaging 11.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. She was named second-team All-Coast Conference South Division.

Cline, a sophomore from Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, also earned second-team All-Coast Conference South Division honors this past season. She ranked third on the squad with 9.9 points and 4.7 rebounds.

The duo will join a Simpson University program that is coming off a historic season. Simpson captured California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) regular season and tournament championships and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament. The Red Hawks are led by head coach Anthony Taylor.

Bejarano and Cline join Jada Dickens from the women's beach volleyball team as Rams student-athletes to sign with four-year universities this week. Gavilan Director of Athletics and Kinesiology Jamie Adams is proud of the trio's accomplishments.

"Watching Izzy, Millie, and Jada earn the opportunity to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year universities is exactly what Gavilan Athletics is all about," Adams said. "These three have represented our department with tremendous pride, work ethic, and leadership, and we could not be more excited to see what they accomplish at the next level. They have each left a lasting impact on our program and our campus, and we will always be proud to call them Rams."
