2021-22 Student-Athlete of the Year
Gavilan College is proud to recognize our 2021 -22 Student Athlete of the Year, men's basketball player Tahjae Ordonio.
Tahjae has been an exemplary student during his time at Gavilan College. He has a 3.3 accumulative GPA and was particularly strong this Fall semester when he had a 4.0 GPA. He is a Dean's List recipient. Tahjae is taking 25 units this year because he is already ahead of schedule. By the time he leaves Gavilan this Spring he will have already completed nearly 100 units. He already completed his AA-T in Kinesiology in the summer of 2021 and this spring will also receive his Personal Training Certificate. And all this while competing as a student-athlete.
Tahjae was a major contributor to the team, being named to the First Team All-Conference Coast Conference South. He received 2 Full Ride Division II basketball offers, to Chadron State and to Stanislaus State. Tahjae was in the top 5 in scoring and assists per game in The Coast Conference South (averaging 16.5 point per game, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists), which was rated the best conference in the state this past year. He leaves Gavilan having scored over 900 career points for the Rams.
But Tahjae is more than a student or an athlete. He is an active community member, helping coach and teach youth in basketball camps and coaching 3rd and 4th graders. Tahjae has spent time feeding the homeless and still does to this day. According to Head Coach Derek Jensen, "He is an amazing, mature, respectful, helpful and caring young man that is always willing to give back and help others. He is the type of person that you can build a culture around."
We would also like to congratulate the other nominees: Makenna Deeth, Volleyball; Isaac Ebon Nfon, Football; and Jason Scirigione, Football. Congratulations Tahjae Ordonio, Gavilan College Student Athlete of the Year 2021 – 22.
Interesting Note: Tahjae's brother Kobe Ordonio, a member of Gavilan College's 2019-20 men's basketball team was selected our 2019-20 Student-Athlete of the Year.
