Rams edge Yuba 27-20 in overtime

GILROY – Running back Houstyn Lee-Perry had a huge game with 167 yards and two touchdowns while Hiro Diamond's interception in overtime sealed Gavilan College's 27-20 victory against visiting Yuba College on Saturday at Gilroy High School.

Lee-Perry helped the Rams grind out their first win of the season as Gavilan was able to control the tempo on the ground and win the time of possession battle.

Gavilan totaled 244 yards of offense, with 160 net yards coming by the rush while the Rams defense limited Yuba (0-3 overall) to just 142 yards.

The Rams trailed early after a first-quarter touchdown by Yuba gave the Miners a 7-0 lead. But Diamond, playing both sides of the ball, got Gavilan on the board with a 9-yard touchdown reception from Mason Pound at the 5:00 minute mark in the first.

Lee-Parry scored the first of his two touchdowns early in the fourth quarter. His 15-yard run gave the Rams a 17-13 lead with 10:30 left in the contest. Yuba responded with a rushing TD to back out in front 20-17 at the 8-minute mark.

Down three points, the Rams got a 21-yard field goal from Siro Lauchlan, his second field goal of the game, to tie the game at 20-20 and send it to overtime.

In overtime, the Rams took possession first and got an 8-yard TD from Lee-Perry to take the lead. After a penalty on Yuba's first OT, Diamond came up with the play of the game, an interception at the 10-yard line to end the game and seal the Gavilan victory.

The win improved the Rams to 1-2. Gavilan will look to keep the momentum going next Saturday (Sep. 28) when it travels to Chabot College for a 1 p.m. non-league game.
