Rams host De Anza in home opener Saturday, will honor 1973 national championship team at halftime

The Gavilan College football team will make its 2023 home debut this Saturday (Sep. 9) when the Rams host De Anza College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Gilroy High School's Mustang Stadium.

The college will also celebrate and honor the 50^th anniversary of the 1973 National Championship team at halftime of Saturday's game.

The Rams are looking to bounce back from a 40-14 loss last Saturday in their season opener at Los Medanos College.

Freshman quarterback Carson Hersh threw for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Rams in the defeat. Anthony Martinez (4 catches, 67 yards) and Cayden Gibson (4 catches, 56 yards) both caught TD passes.

De Anza enters Saturday's game also in search of its first win. The Mountain Lions opened the season with a loss last week, falling 21-5 at home to Cabrillo College.
