Wilkerson powers Rams to 10-7 win at Delta

STOCKTON — A four-hit, four-RBI performance from Ricky Wilkerson and a 16-hit offensive outburst powered Gavilan College to a 10-7 road victory at San Joaquin Delta College on Thursday afternoon.

The Rams scored in six different innings and used a pair of fifth-inning home runs to seize momentum in a back-and-forth nonconference contest.

Wilkerson finished 4-for-5 with a home run, double, and four RBIs to headline the Rams' attack. He delivered run-scoring hits in the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings, consistently answering Delta rallies.

Agustin Gomez added a 3-for-5 day with a solo home run and a double, scoring twice and driving in two. Orlando Lewis also tallied three hits in six at-bats, including a two-RBI single in the ninth that provided crucial insurance runs.

Mateo Alcantar scored a team-high three runs, while Diego Flores chipped in two hits and an RBI.

After Gavilan built a 3-2 lead through four innings, the Rams broke through in the fifth.

Gomez opened the frame with a solo homer to extend the lead to 4–2. Two batters later, Wilkerson launched a home run of his own, pushing the advantage to 5-2. Flores followed with an RBI single to cap the three-run surge.

Delta responded with a two-run homer in the bottom half, trimming the margin to 6-4, but Gavilan continued to apply pressure offensively.

Wyatt Barton earned the win, tossing 5.0 innings while allowing four earned runs and striking out three. The bullpen combination of Anthony Dela Cruz and Brayden Martinez covered the final four innings.

Delta mounted a threat in the seventh, scoring twice to cut the deficit to one. After the Mustangs pulled within 8-7 in the eighth, Lewis delivered the decisive blow in the ninth with a two-run single to extend the lead to 10-7.

Martinez shut the door over the final 2.2 innings to secure the victory.

Thursday's win evened up Gavilan's overall record at 6-6. The Rams return to action on Saturday (Feb. 21) when they host Delta in a 1 p.m. game to wrap up the series.
