Gavilan Baseball’s Louis Zulaica signs with Cal State Bakersfield

Gavilan College baseball standout Louis Zulaica has signed with Cal State Bakersfield to continue his academic and athletic career.

"The Lord has blessed me beyond measure. I am so thankful for what God is doing and will do in this next chapter of my life. Jesus changed my life, and I could not have gone through this journey without Him. I am blessed to continue this journey at @CSUB_Baseball," Zulaica posted on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.

Zulaica closed out an impressive sophomore season this past spring for the Rams, earning California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA) All-State honors after being named the Coast Conference South Division Most Valuable Player.

Originally out of Valley Christian High School, Zulaica compiled a .394 batting average (63 for 160) during the 2024 season with 63 hits, 5 home runs, 20 doubles, and 38 RBI. Over 20 conference games, Zulaica hit .469 with a .790 slugging percentage.

From the mound, he struck out 14 batters for the Rams over 13 innings while compiling a 1-1 record with 2 saves.

Zulaica heads to Bakersfield after recently closing out a summer season with the Chugiak Eagle River Chinooks of the Alaska Baseball League.

Cal State Bakersfield is under the direction of newly-appointed head coach Jordan Banfield. The Roadrunners compete at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Big West Conference. CSUB will regularly face perennial national powers Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State.
