Rams' Zulaica named MVP; Bitter, Heard earn All-Conference honors

Following the close of the 2024 regular season, three Gavilan College Rams were honored with All-Coast Conference South Division postseason awards.

Leading the way was sophomore Louis Zulaica as he was named the Coast Conference South Division Most Valuable Player. Zulaica, originally out of Valley Christian High School, compiled a .394 batting average (63 for 160) with 63 hits, 5 home runs, 20 doubles, and 38 RBI. Over 20 conference games, Zulaica hit .469 with a .790 slugging percentage.

From the mound, he struck out 14 batters over 13 innings while compiling a 1-1 record with 2 saves. 

Freshman Jaden Bitter (Valley Christian HS) was a first-team All-Coast Conference South Division selection at the utility position while freshman Joshua Heard (Valley Christian HS) earned second-team honors at catcher. 

Bitter smacked a team-high 8 home runs while hitting .296 (47 for 159) with 33 RBI. Heard batted .364 (47 for 129) on the season while driving in 23 runs. He also threw out 10 attemped base stealers.

Gavilan head coach Rob Sanchez wrapped up his first season leading the Rams to an 11-29 overall record while Gavilan finished tied for fourth place in the final Coast Conference South Division standing at 6-14.
