Sanchez earns first head coaching win, Rams beat CCSF 10-7

GILROY – Designated hitter Eric Cantu went 3 for 5 with 4 RBI while second baseman Jaden Bitter launched a solo home run to help lead Gavilan College to a 10-7 non-conference win over visiting City College of San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon.

The victory marked career win No. 1 for new head coach Rob Sanchez. He took over the Gavilan baseball program this year after serving as an assistant coach over the past 10+ seasons.

Cantu had a huge game at the plate, setting the table from the leadoff position in the lineup. He added a double, walk, stolen base, and scored a run.

Bitter, from the second spot, scored a pair of runs and No. 3 hitter Louis Zulaica went 2 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI, and a pair of walks.

Andre Moretti was solid in his three-inning scoreless start on the mound. He scattered 3 hits and struck out 3. Tom Gugale picked up the win in relief while Zulaica earned a save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Gavilan, now 1-3 overall, returns to action on Friday (Feb. 3) when the Rams host Napa Valley College in a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
